Don’t miss the opportunity to support the UTEP College of Engineering in an exciting and challenging environment! Volunteers are the key to making the Baja SAE competition a successful and exciting event for students, and everyone involved. Whether you are new to Baja SAE or experienced your time and talent will add value to our competition. UTEP students, alumni and everyone interested are welcome to volunteer.

There are a variety of activities to help with. The available tasks that volunteers can help with are below:

  • General Volunteer: Help with the general needs of the event, including hospitality, registration support, food and water distribution, event equipment and material distribution. Other tasks include directing parking and help teams setting up. If you have limited or no prior experience with the Baja SAE, this is a great way to get involved.
Time commitment: Half day, full day, or more.

  • Design Judge: Assess what was designed and why it was designed by the teams; interact with the students who will answer questions about the vehicle's design and quality; evaluate vehicles in several areas such as innovation, suspension, operator comfort and structure.
Experience Required: Must be a college graduate majoring in engineering and/or an individual that is involved in the design of off-road vehicles, trucks or automobiles.
    Time Commitment: Friday April 25th, 2014, 7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Design reports will be distributed to the judges a month before the competition. This with the intention that you know and learn about the cars that you will be evaluating during the actual presentations.

The Design Judge volunteer opportunity has reached its maximum capacity, if you sign-up you will be placed in our waiting list. We encourage you to volunteer in one of the other volunteer opportunities including sales presentation judge, endurance race and dynamic event volunteers.

  • Sales Presentation Judge: Students will present to the “executives,” of a hypothetical manufacturing company, to purchase the team’s Baja SAE vehicle design and place it for production at a rate of 4000 units per year. Volunteers will judge several of these presentations on several grading criteria including content, organization, visual aids and delivery. Judges will interact with teams by asking them questions about their marketing plan.
Experience Required: Must be a college graduate with experience in marketing, production and finance and/or engineering.
    Time Commitment: Thursday April 24th, 2014, 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
